RUMBARGER CEMETERY
John Rumbarger (1810-1889) was the original founder of DuBois, having established the original town of Rumbarger, formalized with its own post office in 1874 which later evolved and was finally renamed DuBois after lumbering magnate John DuBois.
John Rumbarger also founded the seven and a half-acre Rumbarger Cemetery which now contains some 1800 burial sites with about 1500 headstones. It is the oldest cemetery in DuBois.
Bordered by Main Street and the Regional Medical Center, the cemetery is the final resting place of Civil War Veterans, Spanish-American War Veterans, WW I Veterans, Korean Veterans, WW II Veterans, past mayors, local clergy, and victims of an area mine explosion as well as those many less noted yet equally beloved past DuBois and area residents.
Today the Historic Cemetery is managed and maintained by the Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society
